Cookin’ On 3 Burners are Australia’s foremost and hardest-hitting Hammond organ trio — joining the dots between funk, soul, boogaloo, motown & jazz. Long time partners Lance Ferguson (guitar), Ivan Khatchoyan (drums) and Jake Mason (organ) have taken their home brew of soulful Hammond and get down everywhere from festivals to afterhours bars and clubs. With their releases receiving acclaim from international DJ’s, critics and fans alike, Cookin’ on 3 Burners continue to deliver upfront musical dishes with a down-home flavour. What could be better than three handsome lads getting down and doing their funky thing - they might even invite along a guest vocalist - fresh sounds to make you shake your peas and gravy!
Lance Ferguson (aka Lanu) - guitar
Lance Ferguson has worked as a guitarist with artists including Joe Bataan (U.S), Eddie Bo (U.S), Eddie Floyd (U.S), Alice Russell (U.K), Mark de Clive-Lowe (NZ/U.K), The Quantic Soul Orchestra (U.K), Bembe Segue (U.K), Doug Parkinson & Renée Geyer. A Tru Thoughts recording artist, his productions have also been released on labels including Ubiquity (U.S), Freestyle (U.K), Sonar Kollektiv (GER) and Kay Dee (U.S).
Ivan Khatchoyan (aka Choi) - drummer/producer/writer
Ivan was born in Montreal, Canada where he was playing music at an early age. Since moving to Australia in 1990, he has been a sought after presence in the jazz, funk & hip-hop music scene. Ivan has gigged, toured and recorded extensively with seminal Australian groove acts Cranky, Skaddabox, Renee Geyer, Candice Monique, True Live, Oscillate, Rich Webb, OffCutts, TZU, Heavyweight Dub Champion (US), Elf Tranzporter (US). He has played tours supporting international acts De La Soul (US ), Roots Manuva (UK), Moby(US), Mix Master Mike(US), Ozimatli(US), & The Roots. Ivan also supported The Cat Empire on their recent 24-date tour.
Jake Mason - organ, sax
After hearing a beaten up Hammond organ for the first time in his late teens, Jake has been an organ disciple ever since. With more than a nudge from the 50’s & 60’s organ heritage, he has also branded a jazz and funk style of his own. With Cookin’ On 3 Burners taking the focus he also splits his time by producing, songwriting, recording and playing saxophone (Yamaha endorsed). Jake has toured and played with some the world’s finest artists including Mark Seymour, Renee Geyer, Kate Ceberano, Ian Moss, Ronda Burchmore and Louis King. He is published by Origin Music Publishing.
