Balinese Dancers

The Balinese Dancers perform a beautiful, traditional style of Balinese dance. They can also perform on the Balinese Gamelan. A gamelan is a traditional musical ensemble from Indonesia, typically from the islands of Java and Bali, featuring a variety of instruments such as metallophones, xylophones, kendang (drums) and gongs; bamboo flutes, bowed and plucked strings. Vocalists may also be included. For most Indonesians, gamelan music is an integral part of Indonesian culture. The Balinese Dancers are a fantastic choice of entertainment for any cultural, traditional or internationally themed event. They are also available for opening/welcoming ceremonies.

The Canberra Lion Dance troupe has been training since 2007 and have performed all over the ACT. The performers aim to carry on the tradition of lion dancing that has existed for many thousands of years. They strive to spread the word of this ancient culture through performances, workshops and education. Having strong relationships with the ACT Chinese Australian Association, the Federation of Chinese Associations of the ACT, the Canberra Multicultural Forum and the Office of Multicultural Affairs, these talented performers are perfect for any cultural celebration.

Established in 1982, the Chao Feng Chinese Orchestra is an independent, non-profit organisation with the aim of promoting traditional Chinese culture and music to a broad audience. The Orchestra is the largest and longest-running Chinese Orchestra in Australia and has become a focal point for the development of Chinese music in Australia. Over the years the orchestra, which consists of over 30 members, has participated in many multi-cultural events including performances at Hong Kong City Concert Hall, the Victorian Concert Hall in Singapore and performances with orchestras from around the world.

Chinese Lion Dance

Chinese Lion Dance

Two 3-metre strings of Chinese fire crackers will explode, signalling the dramatic arrival of two Chinese Lions. Their arrival will be accompanied by a fury of percussion (Chinese drums, gongs and cymbals). Each lion is teased and enticed around by a Buddha. This spectacular performance will take place for up to 20 minutes.
