Dave Hughes Add to Shortlist

Dave Hughes is perhaps one of the most important and significant talents to have emerged from the Australian comedy scene in the last ten years. A natural and unmistakably Australian comic, Dave’s laconic style thinly disguises one of the fastest comic minds this country has ever seen. Dave Hughes got his start on the comedy circuit in Perth, but it was at the 1999 Melbourne Comedy Festival that word began to spread about this impossibly laid-back guy from Warrnambool. Hughes is well-known to audiences around the country from his appearances on the ABC’s late-lamented The Glass House, Rove Live, Before the Game (where his allegiance to Carlton Football Club is legendary) and as co-host of Nova 100’s breakfast show. His first DVD Dave Hughes Live has sold - by his own admission - "stacks”.

Funny, appealing, self-deprecating, deadpan, larrikin — Dave Hughes’ uncanny ability to be the Aussie Everyman makes him perennially popular. Honest and imperfect is the way Aussies like their comedy — Dave Hughes delivers exactly that in spades.
